Empire Captain

We return to Warhammer Fantasy, specifically the Empire and its new edition, I’ve got some of the new figures. About the new army book, I can say I love it and I think we will be able to make a great use for the new characters within games, I only regret that there is no new edition for Knights and I don’t think they will do new ones… I do not understand, the minis are from 1992 and believe it is time already, especially considering that for the altar and the general they made a new heavy horse model.

I have about 200 unpainted empire’s minis in the warehouse, an army is based on the heraldry of Sylvania, for now I wanted to start with an Imperial Captain as a champion in a regiment of great swordsman.

I like the mini and its pose is interesting, the only downside that I can think of is that does not allow much conversion, although in this case, I do not need. For the heraldic colors and I have relied on the book released a year ago on uniforms and heraldry of the empire, a great book worth having.

The main colors are black, red and cream. For blacks use 6 tones of Andrea, which can be found in a set called Black Paint Set, for the Reds, also use another Andrea set under the name Paint Red set, these set are easy to find and highly recommended if you want to have a whole series of tones, still recommend to mix them to create a smoother transitions and not directly apply each tone and said in the little tutorial they bring.

For the cream tone I used GW colors, the base is with Khemri Brown, followed by a mixture of Khemri Brown + Kommando Khaki in 1/1. Then we illuminate this mixture to taste by adding more Kommando Khaki and finally a final highlight with Kommando Khaki + Bleached Bone.

Now I am finishing a mortar of the same army, soon put the final result and now I leave you with photos of the Captain.

Warhammer Fantasy Giant

Today I bring here, a  warhammer fantasy giant that I finished two weeks ago, I have always liked this figure, has good customization options and can give much play. In this case prepared the giant to put it on sale with a price of 50 € + 10 € for shipping for a total of € 60, so we are really charging only 10 € for painting!, it’s a small offer to get some attention. Any interested in it, send an e-mail to orders@kharak.com

For the skin, after much thought for the tone, I did the following combination.

Old range of paintings:

First layer, Tallarn Flesh.

Washing Dark Flesh.

Washing scorshed brown + black chaos in 1/1

From here, the layers well watered and very slowly, covering the whole area and go slowly lighting up with the following mixtures, without remove the shadows and watching where the lights were needed with care. Do not focus on giving all layers until the end, in one area and then move to another. If you do this you can end up with the mini with different skin tones.Make each layer of a single time in the skin and then move to the next, so it is all in the same tone.

Layer of Tallarn flesh + Fortress Grey + Dwarf Flesh 2/1/2

First light with Tallarn flesh + Dwarf Flesh + The flesh on 2/2/1

Second lights, add Bleached Bone to the above mixture.

Latest lights, for the next highlights add bleached bone to the mixture, until we like the finish.

For facial features, accentuate them with Bleached Bone.

To create a ruddy nose, I mean something red, I carefully applied the nose and cheekbones with a light wash with Dark Flesh, extending the brush color to be uniform. Once washing it’s dry, apply a little light with a mix of Bleached Bone + Elf Flesh.

For blonde hair, the base layer would be a 1/1 mixture of Bestial Brown and snakebite leather. The first light would be a mix of Snakebite Leather and Bleached Bone 1/1. And we will go enlightening to our taste, adding more Bleached Bone to the mix.

Greetings and see you soon

Vampire Counts: Bretonian Style

One of the commissions i have done for Kharak its a vampire count army set in bretonia, for that commission i have used bretonian bits to give them the right look, the custormer also gave me some Gamezone miniature to give his army a more unique look.

All the army was painted in the advanced mode that its quite cheap in the services offered by Kharak and give the miniatures a professional look, sometimes even better that the one we can see in the games workshop web, its the most demanded paint mode. I can paint at the Masterclass level, but i will talk about that in the future, now its time for the vampire counts.

As i had said i used some bits to make the conversion, on the skeletons, the grave guards where done starting with the bodys of the bretonian men-at-arms to give them a tougher look, the heads where done mixing the heads from the vampire count skeletons and the helms from the bretonian bits, for the weaponts, two handed swords, the ones from the vampire count grave guards where used. I had to cut here and there and use some green stuff to fit all the parts and give them a good looking aspect.

For the ordinary skeletons, the main idea was that they are from the remains scattered on the battlefields, some remains from here an there, so i used most of the bits on the skeletons box set and modified them to fit the bretonian helmets and the shields from the men-at-arms.

Both on the grave guards and the skeleton warriros where painted to give them an aged look and the metals rusty by time.
The zombies didn’t got any conversion, but the customer wanted me to make the two last rows on each unit look like them were just getting out from their graves.
On the black knights, the customer wanted them to have a greenish ghostly look, like the shadows army on the lord of the rings. So they would have black armors weared by ghostly horses and knights.
For the blood knigths, we used gamezone miniatures like on the black knights, i have painted them red like the ones on games workshop.
About 120 minuatures is the vampire count army that I got asked to paint, and i must say its quite impresive as a whole.

High Elf Army: END

Here he have the last miniature on the High Elf order army. It’s a Repeater Bolt Thrower, as with the rest of the army i have painted it following the aged and worn-out tendency, for the metallic parts i’ve used a bronze color and darkened it. I leave you some pictures with all the miniatures painted, a veteran army comanded by a dragon prince. I don’t usualy get a lot of Warhammer Fantasy orders, because 40k has more followers, but i have to say that Fantasy armys are more impressive looking at them as a whole and their miniatures are great to make dioramas. I still have two orders to do, that i will be showing here. Maybe when i finish this orders and if there is not a lot to do in the studio i will be able to finish the Slayer diorama for my friend Forjador.

High Elf Army: Part 4

And now I brings you two battalion that are part of he army, one battalion of Silver Helms and one of Archers. For the knights i’ve used the official scheme on the customer’s army, but on the horses i’ve decided to use a chestnut color, so we stand out the armor and the riders leaving the horses in a secondary plane and giving the whole battalion a more threatening look. On the archer i’ve decided to give the bows a light brown color but making them look aged, the background of the army tells about a veteran troops that have fighted for hundreds of years, so i’ve decided to give a dark and aged look on all the armors and weapont to stand out this idea.

High Elf Army: Part 3

Here we go with the elf army, now its time for the white lion chariot. After searching in the internet the colors used for the official ‘Eavy Metal scheme, i had have to get it by myself trying to paint them in a simiar way. It wasn’t easy, because the colors are too pale and you can ruin them easly ruining the whole miniature, at the end I loved the final appereance, with the chariot looking old as the rest of the army. I would have prefered to paint the chariot with a dark brown midway to a light one, but the customer wanted it with a ivory like appereance. For the crew i’ve used the same tones i have used for the rest of the army, metalized colors on the armor, dark golden ones on the details and blue on the clothings.

High Elf Army: Part 2

The High Elf army is getting slowly finished, now its time for the spearmen that are ready for the battle. I have used the typical tones on this army, as i pointed out i want to follow the offcial Ulthuan scheme with some variations, the first one is to make the troops look old and the second one is to give the miniatures some kind of personalization and character to make them denote some personality. When i paint i always begin with the darkest color and i give the miniature more layers of brighter colors to make the lights, i rarely use pure tones, i always use mixtures if its possible. Here you have some pictures of the battalion, the next step will be eight Silver Helm knights.

High Elf Army: Part 1

Another of the orders i have been tasked its a little High Elf army for Warhammer Fantasy, it will consist of an official battalion, a chariot and a dragon althought its quite possible that the army will be expanded on the future. We decided to give the metals some old tones becouse the customer wanted to make the army looked old. I decided to use the official Ulthuan scheme changing some things to give them some personality. The dragon i just finished was asked to be and old red dragon, with his golden armor showing the passage of time. I decided to make a rest base becouse a miniature like that fully deserves it. I will use a dull and barren scheme for all the bases to show the terrain surrounding the Shadowlands.

Khorne Chaos Champion

IMG_0372While i wait to get the mats for the orders i have to paint, i’ve decided to keep painting to not loose the pace and keep improving my technique, this time i have chosen the chaos Khorn champion, this high detailed metal miniature, i liked the oficial scheme ‘Eavy Metal boys have given to him but i thought it was a little too bright, i have done some changes to make this champion look like he has fought on some battles, instead of making him look like he just left te wax tunnel. I left the red shades more muted and i changed the golden shades for a darken bronze. The cloak on the oficial miniature has a light earth shade, and i have chaged that to a dark leather shades. I think i have worked in this miniature about 5 hours and you can see the outcome on this pictures. Now i will keep waiting for thos packeges with miniatures, although if the don’t get here soon i don’t discarto to paint another miniature while i wait. What can i paint next?

Dwarf slayer dioram: Part II

I have some things to do for Kharak so i will have to set aside Forjador’s diorama for now. Although i only have to finish the slayer desing, the diorama base is finished and goblins are in place. I think that the clasical Citadel style is making the diorama looking good.

I want the diorama to have a warm and bright appearance so i lightened the goblin tones contrasting them with the darker vegetation making the set look good to me. Now i have to decide where i place the slayer to make the scene look perfect.
I really want to finish this but now its time for some work! I have to face a Chaos Space Marine battalion maked up of Nuggle followers that will test my skills! Goodbye!
